Dr. Martin Sykora, is Associate Professor at the Centre for Information Management (CIM), School of Business and Economics, Loughborough University. He has an extensive track record in social media research, advanced sentiment analysis and related big data analytics. Martin’s focus is on investigating the role of social media in the communication of emotion and affect, and how it shapes human behaviours, including its’ impact on public health and civic culture. Methodologically, Martin’s emphasis is on integrating highly qualitative approaches with computational methods through the use of semantic models (e.g. Ontologies), and other relevant methods (e.g. Environmental Momentary Assessment), leveraging machine learning and AI throughout his work, however with a particular emphasis on semantics and in depth qualitative understanding of social media user generated content, in a responsible and ethical manner.
